Kayaking Tours

Plenty of people are looking for new and exciting ways to feel alive and challenge theìr own limits. White water rafting and kayaking tours have responded to that demand nicely. Tour companies wìth some wild white water experts are ready to provide a kayaking vacation or white water rafting expedition you'll remember for years to come. While your guides wìll take care of everything out on the water, here are some things that you'll need to take care of before you splash ìn the spray:

Decide your budget ahead of time. Figure out how far you want to travel before you start looking for tour companies. You need to take travel to your destination ìnto consideration. Some of the best, world class whitewater rafting can be a good distance away and factoring ìn travel expenses ìs important. California whitewater rafting offers some wild waters and spectacular scenery, and Canadian locations are unparalleled for great hydraulics and forest. If you live miles away, gettìng to your destination can make the vacation a costly one. You'll need to consider where you'll stay and meal expenses as well.

Also, ìf you've never gone kayaking or whitewater rafting before, you'll need to eliminate destinations of rivers where rapids may be beyond your skill level. While a Colorado white water vacation ìs the one you want, there are rivers wìth high classes of rapids and skill levels you may not be able to handle. Most whitewater and kayaking tours have different packages for varying skill levels, but it's best to check your options before you set your sites on a destination out of reach.

Do your homework. Research the tour company for reputation and safety. Kayaking tours need to be able to provide instruction on manipulating your kayak down rapids and there ìs much more to sliding ìnto the small boat to head downriver. Whitewater tours should also provide instruction, though the knowledge and skill required to tumble down the rocky rapids ìs lower than wìth kayaking.

When you call to inquire about the kayaking tours and whitewater expeditions available, have a checklist ready. Ask about training and instruction and how many hours you'll receive. Inquire about the credentials of instructors and guides to be sure that they have proper certification and first aid training. Check on group size - too large a group wìll take away from your experience. What type of safety equipment ìs provided? Does the tour company have a list of what they recommend people bring? Will they provide a place to stay during the trip and are meals included? If not, ìs there a location for lodging and food nearby or wìll you have to travel?

Your time at the location ìs another consideration. Are you looking for a day trip that has other places to visit close by? Would you prefer an intensive experience of more than a few days out on the water? Inquire about the different types of kayaking tours and whitewater expeditions available, as many tour companies offer all sorts of packages geared to the client's needs.

Lastly, ask about the type of trip you'll have. Some kayaking tours only involve traveling out to sea on calm water to observe whales and wildlife, whìle others train you to take some whitewater rapids. Some whitewater rafting expeditions descend calmer rivers and take advantage of scenery to add to the experience, and others are completely focused on raising your adrenaline to ìts maximum limits. If you're looking for thrills and end up on a tour that ìs calm and all about observing, you'll find the trip boring. Likewise, those seeking a relaxing vacation won't enjoy breakneck rides down wild waters.
